6+ sessions

Aim: The Advanced squad will focus on developing athletes who aspire to qualifying at a State or National level in either their age or open categories. Athletes will display the commitment and qualities of a higher-level.

Selection Guidelines: Athletes training as part of this squad will show the following:

  • Actively compete as part of the Macquarie University Swim Club,
  • A displayed commitment, actively working towards State Age or Open qualification,
  • Willingness to attend the recomended number of sessions and train within the parameters of each session,
  • At the discretion of the Senior Squad Coach.

Athlete Qualities:

  • Beginning to specialise in stroke and distance,
  • Has an understanding of training speeds and intensities,
  • Has the ability to communicate appropriately with coaching staff and fellow squad members

 

4+ sessions

Aim: The Intermediate squad will focus on developing athletes who aspire to qualifying at Metropolitan or State Age Championships. Athletes will display the commitment and qualities of a competitive level athlete.

Selection Guidelines: Athletes training as part of this squad will show the following:

  • An active member of the Macquarie University Swim Club,
  • displayed commitment to achieving Metropolitan qualification,
  • Willingness to attend the recommended sessions and train within set paramaters,
  • At the discretion of the Senior Squad Coach

Athlete qualities:

  • Enjoyment of swimming and the desire for continued personal improvement, 
  • Developing self-discipline and the willingness to increase commitment towards swimming,
  • Maintain technique in all four strokes during maturation,
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with coaching staff and fellow squad members. 

3-4 sessions

Aim: The Novice squad is the first squad in the competitive pathway. Athletes in this squad will be guided on the important skills required in competitive swimming. Technique correction and stroke development will ensure the athletes continually refine all four strokes.

Selection Guidelines: Athletes training as part of this squad will show the following:

  • An active member of the Macquarie University Swim Club,
  • displayed commitment to achieving district qualification,
  • Willingness to attend the recommended sessions and train within set paramaters,
  • At the discretion of the Senior Squad Coach

 Athlete Qualities

  • Actively participates in club meets and activities. 
  • Develop habits for a sustainable active and heathy lifestyle.
